Finding A Church That Fits You

I can assure you that most Christians have found themselves church shopping at some point in their journey. At the onset, let me first say that we need to stop feeling guilty about this inevitability. Finding a church that fits us is not at all an unrealistic aspiration. Maybe it goes without saying, but churches tend to differ greatly in their focus, function, and beliefs. So finding a good fit is not always as easy as you might think. The reality is that most American believers have suffered numerous bad experiences at church. This is evidenced in the fact that most people who claim to espouse the Christian faith in this country are no longer regularly attending a local church. Though it is true that most of us are still struggling to recover from the past offences of others, deep down where it really matters, we still want to find a place where we know we belong.
If you currently find yourself without a church that you feel good about calling your home, whatever the reason, then allow me the opportunity to bring you some encouragement. Please know that you are not alone. After serving as a local church pastor for many years, I too have often felt like the proverbial wayfaring stranger. Unlike the typical local church of 50 years ago, churches today have a much higher influx and attrition rate. Of course there are many reasons that account for this phenomenon, but I believe the primary reason is the increasingly transient nature of our culture. Although most of us still highly esteem the values of family and community, we need to be honest about where we actually place them in our list of priorities. I have lost count of how many times my family and I have moved in the last 20 years, but as a result, we have become keenly aware of the affect that it has had on our ability to build and maintain relationships. In a word, that is what church is all about, relationship.
People start attending church for many reasons, but ultimately we will stay at one for only one reason. We have people there that matter to us. Mission statements, programs, and doctrine aside, what truly is important to us is finding a group of people who care about who we are and what we have to bring. Even though it may take more time and effort than we might at first think, we have to believe that a group like this is out there somewhere for us. We were created to live in a family and a community. Most of us no longer have close knit family ties, but we need not give up the hope of finding a loving church community. Perhaps it is time to set aside our insecurities and emotional baggage and try again. Maybe we could get involved with a small church home group, or simply find someone we can meet for lunch. We have to learn to initiate relationships if we truly want connectivity. Like it or not, we need each other, and sometimes the only way to find a friend is to be one. If you need help locating a local church in you area, try using the links provided below.

How To Choose A Carpet Cleaner

If you find yourself in need of a professional carpet cleaning, you will also find that there are several different cleaning options available to the consumer. The carpet cleaning industry employs a variety of methods to address the cleaning requirements of the average home or business owner. Choosing a company or method that best suits you needs will require a basic understanding of the types of carpet cleaning that are now available. Most professional carpet cleaners use the method of hot water extraction. This method is most often referred to as steam cleaning.
Steam cleaning is the process of removing dirt and stains through the application of detergent and hot water to the carpet. This solution is most often applied manually through the use of a carpet cleaning tool known as a wand. The user will make repeated passes over the area being cleaned paying special attention to the high traffic sections. In areas where a stain has occurred, the carpet will be pretreated with an emulsifier solution. This will break up the stain at a deeper level and will allow the carpet fibers to release the dirt and grease which commonly accompany the stained area. Some professional cleaners, in an attempt to be more green conscious, have employed the use of water at a higher temperature of 200 degrees. The water is made softer and thus has a higher ph and alkalinity. This allows the cleaning professional to use less, or even no detergent. The obvious benefit of this method is the lack of detergent residue common to most hot water extraction methods. Detergent residue can actually begin attracting dirt soon after the cleaning has been completed.
Another option currently being employed by professional carpet cleaners is the dry cleaning method. Although this method is not entirely devoid of moisture, it does significantly reduce drying time. This is especially helpful in applications where an area must remain useable or open to foot traffic. The compounds used with the dry cleaning method are in the form of a powder rather than a liquid solution. The dry cleaning compound will be spread out over the entire surface of the carpet and then brushed down into the carpet. Professional cleaners most often use a rotating brush to work the compound deeply into the carpet fibers. Dirt will then be attracted to the compound which then is removed by thoroughly vacuuming the area. This can also be accompanied by the use of encapsulation which is the crystallization of dirt and grease particles rendering them more readily accessible to the extraction process. Although steam cleaning systems tend to clean deeper, dry cleaning methods are usually not as labor intensive and can be less intrusive to the home or business owner.
Finding a professional carpet cleaner is a matter of preference. If time is not an issue, steam or hot water extraction is still the first choice of most consumers. If the area of carpet that needs to be cleaned is in a public space or a business setting, then a dry cleaning method may be preferable. There are many well known and established carpet cleaning companies currently in operation. If you need help finding a qualified professional in your area, try using the links listed below.

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

When you have lived as many places as I have, you begin to appreciate the importance of establishing your boundaries. Because so many of us have relegated ourselves to subdivision living, the need for a good fence has exponentially increased over the last 15 to 20 years. This fact is especially true when living in urban and suburban areas. It never ceases to amaze me how real estate developers have learned to cram so many houses into so few acres. The difference between the average lot size of the 1970s as compared to those of today is difficult to comprehend. Even higher end homes seem to be being built closer and closer together. Maybe I am crazy, but if I’m going to spend $500.000 on a home, I expect to have some breathing room.
A few years back, we were living in a subdivision where the homes on each side of us were about 15 feet apart from ours. Keep in mind, these were good sized new homes. But this neighborhood was typical of so many being built today in that we were allotted one little tree strategically located directly outside the sliding glass doors at the rear of the house. A few shrubs were planted out front, but the yard was hastily created and thus very spotty and uneven. Only later did we start finding out that all the construction trash had been thrown into the back yard, plowed under, and then seeded over. Granted our lot was actually larger than most in that neighborhood. We had a whopping ½ acre to roam on. But this was not nearly enough for me. This reality was reinforced one afternoon while I was mowing the grass.
I was born and raised in the rural mid-west. So I decided I would bless my neighbor by cutting a couple rows of their grass along our shared property line. I figured that they were clearly too busy to stay on top of keeping their own lawn neat and tidy, so I would just help them out a little bit. This turned out to be a big mistake. Apparently in the more urban areas, this is not considered kosher. Within a few minutes of putting my lawnmower away, I heard hammering in the side yard. I looked out the window to see my neighbor pounding rebar stakes into our property line about every 10 feet. She proceeded to connect the stakes with kite string. Clearly this impromptu fence was the best she could come up with on such short notice, but the message was as clear as crystal. I had unknowingly assaulted her domain. By the way, those silly stakes were still there when we moved out a couple years later.
We now live on about 10 acres surrounded mostly by woodland, but I must admit, my neighbors still bug me on occasion. I guess the older I get, the more space I need. That being said, if you are currently in a housing situation that is cramping your style, the addition of a privacy fence may be in order. I have found that, more often than not, your neighbor will appreciate the sentiment rather than resent it. They probably want to get away from you as much as you do them. In turn, this will allow you to enjoy your neighbors company when you want to, and not when you have to. If you need help finding a good fencing company in your area, try using the links listed below.

The Evolution Of The Video Game Arcade

In the 1950s and 60s pinball machines were the pinnacle of arcade game technology. But with the advent of Pong in 1972 the gaming landscape changed dramatically from raw mechanical manipulation to seemingly unlimited electronic bliss. The pioneers of the video gaming industry had no way of comprehending the size or scope of the Genie they had so unknowingly released. The founders of companies like Atari and Namco could not have possibly understood the lasting impact they would make on our lifestyles and culture. Now, it is hard to even imagine a world without Space Invaders, Pac-Man, or Donkey Kong. But even these titles are slowly fading into obscurity.
The rise and fall of the public video game arcade is a story that is truly epic in proportion. Though some may argue that the arcade experience of today far surpasses that of 20 or 30 years ago, I would beg to differ. In the early days of the video game arcade, we were dazzled by technology that we would be laughable by current gaming standards. Nonetheless, I would contend that there is much more to the gaming experience than the capability of a microprocessor or the memory capacity of a graphics card. Video game arcades in the 1970s were much more than that. They were the epicenters of adolescent culture, at least for much of the male species. Where else could you come with a handful of quarters and leave an hour later with pure adrenaline pulsing through your veins? Ok, maybe you should not answer that question. The point being, even though the token consuming monsters in a modern arcade may be able to boast of their superior technology, they certainly are not any more or less fun than the originals.
In fact, it is we who have changed. Once we all owned a PC, the days of the local video game arcade were numbered. Like so many other aspects of our culture, we have consistently chosen to forgo our need for human interaction for some form of cheap technological substitute. As if our addiction to TV was not bad enough, the current availability and variety of PC games has the potential to send us all into perpetual seclusion. Though multiplayer games can often link us up through a network or online, the overall enjoyment of the experience still pails in comparison to standing next to your buddy elbow to elbow slamming buttons. I think it is time to get back out there and make the gaming experience truly interactive again. Maybe the graphics are not as rich. Maybe it will cost us a little more. Still, most big arcades and family fun centers offer chances to compete with one another the old fashioned way. If Dance Revolution wears you out, try bowling or air hockey. You might be surprised by the redemptive value of a night out with a good group of friends. It has been said that the quality of our life is directly related to the quality of our relationships. I would wholeheartedly concur. If you need help finding a local video game arcade in your area, you might want to check out the links listed below.

Finding A Good Opthamologist

Eye care is an often overlooked, but nonetheless important, aspect of personal health and wellness. As we grow older, our eyes go through many changes and therefore should be carefully monitored by a competent opthamologist. Because of the commercialization of the eye wear industry, companies like Wal-Mart have unintentionally decreased eye health awareness by shifting the focus of the consumer from function to appearance. Although glaucoma testing is still present in the procedures found in the local vision centers of today, a seasoned opthamologist can often provide care at a level far beyond that which has become common for most eye wear outlets. Although it is certainly convenient to get our eye glasses in an hour, we may or may not be receiving the kind of attention that our eyes deserve.
It is not uncommon for the typical vision center to serve 50 to 100 clients in the course of a day. Like much of the health care industry, the success or failure of this type of center is determined by the sheer volume of their patients. Seemingly, the priority of personalized care is no longer deemed an industry standard. Thus the average eye screening process has been drastically shortened. This has increased the risk of either missing or even misdiagnosing common issues such as astigmatism, presbyopia, binocular vision, and near or farsightedness. Thus the responsibility of maintaining regularly scheduled eye exams by a licensed opthamologist has fallen to the consumer.
When searching for personalized care, it is not unreasonable to request that a potential health care provider allow you to conduct a brief interview. Once you have determined what questions you would like to have answered concerning their experience or procedures, take the time to get to know your opthamologist. If they choose not to allow you this simple courtesy, this may be an indication of the level of care commonly provided. On the other hand, if he or she is willing to take the time to answer questions or address any concerns you might have, then your search may be over. As a general rule, the population density of the area in which you are living may directly affect the quality of care available. Remember, large scale vision centers or eye wear outlet chains are required to produce revenue based on the number of people served. Whereas a local opthamologist can often avoid this kind of pressure due to the smaller size of their office.
No one can choose a health care provider for us better than we can. Even though our insurance company may be helpful in providing us with options, it is our responsibility to take the time to investigate for ourselves. Choosing an opthamologist that best suits our needs may take more time than we might have realized at first, but it will be time well spent. Our vision is far too precious to take for granted. If you currently find yourself in need of an opthamologist, the links listed below may prove helpful.
